The city
146 entries, framed and written out
This page is two things. The register lists 1,748 New York City restaurants across the five boroughs, 221 of them kosher, sorted into 32 sections, from desserts and pizza to steak. Every name came off a published list and was then checked against the city's own register of licensed food service establishments, which supplies the address and telephone number. The full register has a page of its own at /nyc/table/, and each map link opens Google Maps.
The guide is 146 framed entries, among them attractions, hotels, bars, cafés, neighbourhoods and places found only in New York, each with its own notes, all of it written into the page. The Big Apple, the city's nickname, spread from New York horse-racing columns of the 1920s and was taken up again by a New York tourism campaign in the 1970s.
Everything below came out of the guide this property replaces, record for
record. What changed is the shape: the pictures are framed rather than laid under the type,
every entry keeps its own notes on its own card, and the whole book is in the page rather
than drawn by a script after it — so it prints, it searches, and it reads the same in
both editions.
